Heather - USPS - PTC

While waiting in line at the local post office to express mail a letter to the GA Bar Association (the subject of a future entry), the sole clerk allowed a regular customer to drop off a mail bucket). Heather said something to the customer about express mail and tomorrow morning. Because there were several people in front of me and I"d had a migraine most of the day, I asked Heather if I'd missed the Express Mail pickup.

She yelled at me that she was talking to another customer and that I hadn't missed the pickup. I said, "ok, I was just checking because if I had missed it, I was going to leave." She then proceeded to yell across the room about how she knew I was upset. I told her I was not upset, I simply wanted to know if I had missed the pickup. One of women in line with me said,"that was uncalled for," and the other said, "well, she's just having a bad day, but you never take it out on the customer."

When I got to the counter, she again tried to discuss the other customer in her annoying, nasally voice. I told her there was no need to discuss the matter any more. I really wanted to tell her to just shut the * up.

AirTran Ticket and Gate Agents

While checking in two unaccompanied minors (UMs), the ticket agent was having a conversation with the agent next to her, discussing "Tyrone" and one or more of his women. The line greeter, who was having trouble hearing the conversation, left her position and climbed on the baggage scale in order to participate in the conversation.

I took the two girls to the gate where the gate agent told us to have a seat until called. When we were finally called after all sections were boarded, I handed her the envelope I'd completed at the ticket counter. "Where's the other envelope? You need two envelopes if you have two UMs."  I told her I'd completed what I was given at the counter and that the agent had put both of their boarding passes into that envelope. I mentioned that maybe the discussion about Tyrone and his women had made her a little distracted.

She told me to sit down, hurry up, and fill out another envelope. When I was almost done scribbling, she yelled over to me, "Are you almost done?" I reminded her that it was not my fault and would have happily filled out two if I had been given two, but that the agent was too busy to pay attention. She said, "yeah, you already told me that, but with two UMs....."

After the plane was in the air, the agent saw me walking away.  With a much sweeter voice, she said, "Oh, Miss (girls' last name), I want to print something out of the computer for you." She couldn't print it out, but she told me she wanted me and the girls' mom to know that she put a note in the record about "the situation" and noted that the ticket agent had screwed up.

It did not matter to me (or the mom) when, or even if, both envelopes were filled out. That was an issue for AirTran/DOT auditors and the employees. The gate agent realized she'd been rude to me for something that was out of my control, and wanted to look proactive.

I should have reported her for her arrogant behavior in front of other customers, but I didn't. I'm sure her coworkers will have choice words for her.

Not sure the AirTran Atlanta attitude will fly when the Southwest takeover is complete. Good luck with that!
